Foreign investment in Bangladeshi cinema remains relatively uncommon. However, Sri Lankan producer Azeem Haroon has recently drawn attention after becoming involved with two big-budget productions.
Azeem previously co-invested in the film ‘Borbaad’ and has now produced the upcoming Eid release ‘Rakkhosh’. Both films are directed by Mehedi Hasan Hridoy under the banner of Real Energy Production.
Haroon said his decision to become involved in Bangladeshi film production stems largely from his passion for cinema. He believes the country’s film industry has considerable potential and is rich with talented producers and performers.
According to him, with the right vision, planning and initiatives to develop new types of films, the industry could move forward significantly. He also emphasised the importance of building a stronger connection with audiences.
He remains optimistic about the future of the industry. Haroon said he hopes to produce more story-driven films in the coming years and plans to explore a variety of genres rather than focusing solely on action films. At the same time, he aims to help bring Bangladeshi cinema to the international market.
Haroon believes Bangladeshi films could reach global audiences in the same way Turkish and South Korean productions have expanded into new markets through dubbing and international distribution.
In his view, achieving this will require a strong focus on producing high-quality content.
“Only if we can create quality films for audiences will they accept and appreciate them,” he said.
