Redoan Rony’s film ‘Ice Cream’, which introduced actors Sariful Razz, Nazifa Tushi and Kumar Uday to the big screen, will arrive on streaming platform Chorki on 20 October, a decade after its theatrical release.
The film premiered in cinemas on 29 April 2016. Viewers will be able to watch it on Chorki from midnight on 19 October, giving longtime fans a chance to revisit the film and introducing it to a new generation.
At the time of its release, the three lead actors described the film as a deeply personal project. “The film is like our child. We made it with a lot of love and hard work,” they said.
Sariful Razz was visibly emotional as he expressed gratitude to director Redoan Rony for helping him reach that stage of his career.
Rony wrote the story, screenplay and dialogue and directed the film. Explaining why he chose newcomers for the lead roles, he said the story required fresh faces. He also described the audience’s enthusiasm as one of his greatest achievements.
The director had a particular idea behind the title ‘Ice Cream’. He compared a relationship to ice cream, which must be kept at the right temperature: too little warmth makes it melt, while too much cold turns it into ice.
Chorki released a thematic poster for the film on its verified Facebook page on 16 October. After Rony shared it, viewers expressed their eagerness to watch the film again.
One fan recalled that it was the first Bangladeshi film they had watched in a cinema.
For Tushi, ‘Ice Cream’ marked the beginning of her acting career. She entered cinema directly, without first working in television dramas or advertisements.
“I stepped into the vast canvas of cinema without understanding or knowing much about it. I knew nothing about the industry at the time. I simply wanted to act,” she said.
Tushi believes the experience taught her a great deal. She is happy that audiences will have another opportunity to watch the film after 10 years, although she remains surprised by how quickly the time has passed.
Uday, who is now busy with theatre, said people had often asked him about the film over the years. He still remembers the friendship that developed among the three actors before shooting began.
One of his most vivid memories comes from the first phase of filming at Saint Martin’s Island, when the entire unit joined hands and jumped into the sea after completing the shoot.
He believes the film will find renewed relevance among today’s young audiences.
Rony said the production grew out of the tireless work of a young team, fresh faces and immense enthusiasm. Although life has changed over the past decade, he believes the film’s themes remain relevant.
Its arrival on Chorki will also make it accessible to viewers living abroad and those who missed its theatrical run.
For Razz, the film remains a foundation of his career. “The Razz of 10 years ago and the Razz of today have certainly changed in some ways. But ‘Ice Cream’ is the foundation of my life that helped me reach where I am today,” he said.
He still remembers the nervousness before filming, the rehearsals and Rony’s guidance on set.
Shukla Banik, Redoan Rony and Salma Adil produced the film. Its songs feature vocals by Arnob, Armeen Musa, Sharmin Sultana Sumi and Minar Rahman. The cast also includes ATM Shamsuzzaman, Diti, Omar Sani, Sayem Sadat and Nadia Khanam.
