Production on Prime Video’s upcoming ‘Tomb Raider’ series has been temporarily paused after lead actress Sophie Turner sustained a back injury, Variety confirmed. Turner, who plays video game icon Lara Croft, reportedly aggravated a pre-existing condition.
A spokesperson for Prime Video said the pause is a precaution and the team looks forward to resuming filming as soon as possible.
The series, written and executive produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, began shooting in January and features a supporting cast including Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie and August Wittgenstein.
A release date has not yet been announced and it remains unclear if the delay will affect the planned 2027 premiere.
The Tomb Raider franchise has been a cultural staple since the first game launched in 1996, with previous film adaptations starring Angelina Jolie in 2001 and Alicia Vikander in 2018. Two new games, ‘Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis’ and ‘Tomb Raider: Catalyst’, are scheduled for release in 2026 and 2027.
Prime Video’s adaptation follows the success of its Fallout series, raising expectations for this high-profile reboot.
The intellectual property is owned by Swedish company Embracer, which acquired developer Crystal Dynamics in 2022.
