Education Minister Ehsanul Hoque Milon has called for expanding the activities of the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) to address challenges such as drug addiction, lack of interest in studies, and student dropouts.
“Drug addiction, lack of interest in studies, and dropout rates among students are major challenges. To tackle these problems, organisations like BNCC must be made more active and expansive,” the minister said.
He made the remarks during an exchange meeting with BNCC officials at the Education Ministry on Monday.
The minister emphasised strengthening BNCC activities through coordination with his ministry, stressing the importance of instilling discipline, leadership qualities, patriotism, and moral values among students in the current national context.
“BNCC can play a vital role in shaping the future generation as skilled and responsible citizens, and it is also capable of serving as an effective ‘defence line’ for the country,” he said.
Milon also discussed including BNCC activities under the government’s 180-day programme. He instructed expanding BNCC activities as a pilot project in several upazilas, adding that if the pilot succeeds, the model would subsequently be expanded nationwide.
BNCC representatives informed the meeting that there is an opportunity to expand the corps’ activities nationwide at low cost by utilising the infrastructure of existing educational institutions.
