Miscreants opened fire targeting journalists in front of a shop on the west side of Jatisongho Shishu Park in Khulna city early Wednesday. No casualties were reported.
A pedestrian witness said several journalists gather beside Jalil’s shop nightly from 10pm until late. On this occasion, six journalists were chatting when two youths arrived on a motorcycle and fired shots around 12:30am.
One bullet struck a chair but caused no major damage, he added.
Rafiqul Islam Mati, bureau chief of SATV and general secretary of the TV Reporters Unity, said, “As usual, I was at the tea stall with Star News Khulna bureau chief Rafiul Islam Tutul, The Business Standard’s Khulna district correspondent Awal Sheikh, and other journalists. Two youths wearing helmets came on a bike and opened fire. The bullet narrowly missed its target and hit a chair.”
Khulna Police Station Officer‑in‑charge Md Shafiqul Islam said, “We reached the scene after receiving the information and are trying to collect details.”
