Television Playwrights’ Association has announced a new executive committee for the 2026–2028 term following its biennial general meeting in Dhaka.
Playwright and filmmaker Shihab Shaheen has been elected president, while playwright Mezbah Uddin Sumon has been appointed general secretary.
The biennial general meeting was held on Friday (21 August) at the International Mother Language Institute in Segunbagicha.
Founding member, playwright and filmmaker Aranya Anwar announced the new committee during the meeting.
Playwrights Zakir Hossain Ujjal, Litu Sakhawat and Masum Shahriar have been appointed vice-presidents.
Mansur Rahman Chanchal, Elina Shammi and Bidyut Roy will serve as joint general secretaries.
Prabhat Ahmed has been appointed organising secretary, while Pappu Raj will serve as finance secretary.
Dayal Saha has been named office secretary, Sayem Khan will oversee events and information technology, and Faridul Islam Rubel will serve as publicity secretary.
Afrin Jessica has been appointed law and welfare secretary, while Maruf Hossain Sajib will oversee training and research.
Lipi Manowar, Ahmed Tawqeer, Sheikh Hannan and Arko Mostofa have joined the committee as executive members.
Following the announcement, members welcomed the newly elected president, general secretary and other executive committee members with flowers.
Speakers at the meeting discussed the role of television drama and playwrights in Bangladesh, stressing that drama is not merely a form of entertainment but also a powerful medium for reflecting society, culture and people’s lives.
The new leadership said it would work to make the association a more organised, effective and stronger platform while promoting the creativity, professional recognition and welfare of television playwrights.
