Dhallywood actress Afiea Nusrat Barsha has praised the launch of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation’s (BRTC) ‘Pink Bus’ service, describing it as an encouraging step towards women’s employment and self-reliance.
The service has been introduced in Dhaka, Chattogram and Bogura, with women working as drivers and conductors.
The buses are reserved for women passengers.
In a social media post, Barsha said pink was not personally her favourite colour, but the women-led initiative had caught her attention.
She congratulated the female drivers and conductors, saying their work could inspire more women to dream bigger and become financially independent.
“Girls drive private cars, planes and helicopters today. So why can’t they drive buses? Of course they can,” she said, adding that women could excel in any profession if given the opportunity.
Barsha also highlighted the challenges women often face in finding good and respectable jobs.
She said initiatives such as the Pink Bus could create valuable employment opportunities.
“Work means dignity,” the actress said, stressing that no profession should be looked down upon.
She encouraged women to develop the confidence to say, “One day, I will drive this vehicle.”
Barsha also expressed hope that the initiative would open more employment opportunities for women and inspire others to become self-reliant.
The Pink Bus service was inaugurated at BRTC’s Tejgaon depot on 18 August.
The buses will have women drivers and conductors and will carry only female passengers.
