Channel 24 senior reporter Shamima Sultana has been elected president of Atomic Reporters Bangladesh (ARB), the association of journalists covering science, technology and nuclear issues.
AKM Shariful Islam, editor of the science, technology, nuclear and energy portal Vital Bangla, has been elected secretary.
The announcement came Tuesday when ARB held its biennial general meeting and executive committee election for the 2026–28 term at a restaurant in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka.
Mursalin Haque Junayed, chief election commissioner and also general secretary of the IT journalists’ body TMGB, announced the results. Abdullah Al Mamun, public relations officer at the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Fazle Rabbi Sourav, staff reporter at DBC News, served as election commissioners.
Other elected members of the new executive committee are Vice President Abul Kalam Azad (BBC Bangla), Joint Secretary Zahed Selim (Maasranga TV), Organising Secretary Shah Ali Joy (News24 TV), Treasurer Mahmudul Hasan (Star News), Office Secretary Ashraful Islam Rana (freelance journalist), and Communication, Training and Research Secretary Faruk Bhuiyan Robin (Somoy TV).
Executive members elected are Ariful Sajjat (71 TV), Debashish Roy (Somoy TV), and Md Muzahirul Haque Rumen (71 TV).
Newly elected ARB President Shamima Sultana said science and technology are essential for building a developed nation.
She noted that nuclear energy has added new dimensions in health, agriculture and power generation. ARB will work to establish networks with domestic and international experts in science, technology and nuclear fields, and promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
