Sydney-based singer Jhumur, the younger sister of popular Dhallywood actress Shabnoor, recently released her original song ‘Baba’ on her YouTube channel Jhumur Melody, with a music video made by artificial intelligence.
In a recent interview with a national daily, Jhumur revealed in Sydney that the song has been released nearly two decades after its recording, and it has found new life because of the encouragement of Shabnoor, her elder sister and one of Bangladesh’s most beloved film stars.
Released on October 16, the song, written, composed, and arranged by JK Majlish in 2005, tells the moving story of a daughter born during the Liberation War, the very day her father was martyred. It’s a tale of loss and pride, echoing through Jhumur’s soulful rendition.
What makes the song’s release particularly remarkable is its AI-generated music video, created by an Indian artist using cutting-edge visual tools. Instead of a traditional video shoot, Jhumur opted for artificial intelligence to bring the story to life.
In the song’s YouTube description, Jhumur wrote that ‘Baba’ is inspired by the story of a girl born on the day her father gave his life as a freedom fighter in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.
“The song is a voice of love, loss, and pride — remembering those who sacrificed everything so we could live in freedom. A song for the heroes. A song for every ‘Baba’,” she wrote.
She added: “This project has been made even more meaningful because the story is about a father who gave his life as a freedom fighter on the day when his daughter was born. The little girl has an empty heart where she is constantly missing her father. To everyone watching, I hope this song touches your hearts as deeply as it has touched ours.”
Regarding the AI integrated video, Jhumur explained in a recent interview from Sydney: “Making a full-length music video is both laborious and costly. Since I aim to release one song every month, I wanted a more sustainable approach.”
“AI is now widely embraced globally, so I thought, why not use it creatively? I’m delighted that the emotion and story came through beautifully through this technology,” Jhumur said.
Behind this comeback lies the unwavering encouragement of her elder sister Shabnoor, who has been Jhumur’s greatest supporter from the start. “I was the one who pushed her into music. She has real talent, and I always tell her to do music even if it’s just out of passion,” according to Shabnoor.
