Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs Harun-or-Rashid has been assigned additional responsibility as director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The Ministry of Cultural Affairs issued an office order on 21 September, placing him in charge alongside his regular duties until further orders. He will continue to oversee the academy until a regular director general takes charge.
Under the order, Harun-or-Rashid will supervise the academy’s day-to-day operations, including necessary financial expenditure, salaries and allowances for officials and employees, and other administrative matters in line with existing rules.
The director general’s post fell vacant after the one-year contractual tenure of poet and writer Sheikh Rezauddin Ahmed, widely known as Rezauddin Stalin, ended. He was appointed to the position on 21 September 2025 for one year from the date of joining.
Stalin had been appointed following the resignation of theatre director and researcher Syed Jamil Ahmed in February 2025. Before Stalin took charge, academy secretary Mohammad Wares Hossain had served as acting director general from March 2025.
Harun-or-Rashid’s additional charge will ensure the academy’s administrative and routine activities continue until a new regular director general is appointed and joins the post.
