For actress Jannat Akhter Suchi, acting began long before she entered the television industry. A native of Bhola, she first discovered the stage as a child through solo performances at the Matir Theatre of Ideal School in Dhaka.
She continued performing regularly during her school years, right up to higher secondary level. Looking back at those early days, Suchi remains grateful to Monna Sir and Shaheen Bhai, whom she credits for supporting her introduction to acting.
Her journey took an unexpected turn after she entered university, when an accident temporarily disrupted her studies and plans. She had to fall behind for a while, but she refused to give up. Instead, she continued working towards her dreams and gradually moved forward in acting.
Suchi began gaining recognition on television through Rifat Adnan Papon’s drama Professional Lover, where she acted opposite Talha Khan. She later appeared in several dramas directed by Imraul Rafat, including Hello Ladies, Bestfriend-er Boyfriend and Girlfriend Gayeb.
She also became familiar to television audiences through Golam Sohrab Dodul’s popular Deepto TV serial Shiuli Mala, where her performance earned appreciation from viewers.
Her experience is not limited to television. Suchi acted in acclaimed filmmaker Syed Wahiduzzaman Diamond’s art film Rohingya. She has yet to appear in a commercial film, but hopes to make her big-screen debut in a project with a strong story and a compelling character.
Suchi has also worked as a model and appeared in advertisements for brands including Pran Lassi and RFL Tubewell.
She is currently appearing in three serials at the same time—Dolchhut Pakhira, Middle Class and 1 AI Junior—in important roles.
For Suchi, however, acting is only part of a much larger dream. She is the youngest of three siblings, with her brother Ibrahim and sister Farzana. Her parents are Muslim Uddin and Farida Yasmin.
She becomes particularly emotional when speaking about her mother.
“I love my mother immensely. I love my father too, but my love and emotions are stronger for my mother. I have many dreams about acting. I want to become perfect at my craft and a flawless actress, so that people talk about my performances,” Suchi said.
She also dreams of creating a large shelter for animals, complete with a hospital.
“I want to build a very large shelter for animals, where there will also be a hospital. I cannot do it alone. I will definitely need the support of people around me who are interested in this cause,” she said.
Some of her dreams are also connected to personal memories. Suchi’s closest friend was Moni, whose death several years ago deeply affected her. She continues to carry memories of their friendship.
Suchi will celebrate her birthday on 20 October. As she enters another year of her life, the actress wants to continue growing as a performer while seeking stronger stories and more meaningful characters.
For her, the journey ahead is not simply about establishing herself as an actress. It is also about using her abilities to do something meaningful for people and animals.
