Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Zahir Uddin Swapon has praised the role of the United Nations in Bangladesh’s development journey.
He expressed hope that the UN would continue to remain closely involved in the government’s development and public welfare initiatives under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Swapon made the remarks when UN Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative Stephen Rodrigues paid a courtesy call on him at the adviser’s office at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon on Thursday.
During the meeting, Rodrigues expressed his commitment to playing a more effective role in Bangladesh’s development initiatives.
The meeting discussed coordination and consultations with stakeholders on how the government, under the leadership of prime minister, could work to meet the hopes and aspirations of the people on a broader scale.
The two sides also held detailed discussions on institutional reform initiatives following the July Uprising.
