The measles situation in the country remains alarming, with seven deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
According to a report released on Monday by the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), two of these fatalities were laboratory-confirmed cases of measles, while five other deaths are suspected to have been caused by the virus.
The data, compiled from 8am Sunday to 8am Monday, also revealed that 1,282 new suspected measles cases were identified across the country. Laboratory tests confirmed the presence of the virus in 180 of those patients.
Cumulative figures from 15 March to 6 April show a total of 1,099 confirmed measles cases and 8,534 suspected cases nationwide. During this period, the total death toll has reached 20 confirmed fatalities and 118 suspected deaths.
Dhaka Division has emerged as the most affected region, recording 3,652 suspected cases, of which 611 have been laboratory-confirmed. On a positive note, the DGHS reported that 6,016 patients have recovered so far.
DGHS stated that it is maintaining constant surveillance of the situation and is conducting regular data collection and analysis through its integrated control centre. Health authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and are working to ensure that all patients receive treatment.
