Two more children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours till 8am Tuesday, raising the death toll from the ongoing outbreak to 999, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the total deaths, 899 were among suspected measles patients and 100 among confirmed cases, the DGHS said in its health bulletin issued on Tuesday.
The latest deaths were reported from Barishal and Sylhet, with one suspected patient dying in each division.
Between 15 March and 8am on 8 September, a total of 1,66,461 suspected measles cases were reported across the country, while 19,835 cases were confirmed.
In the past 24 hours alone, 1,157 suspected cases were reported and 79 were confirmed.
During the same period, 1,089 patients were admitted to hospitals, while 1,019 recovered and were discharged.
Dhaka reported the highest number of suspected cases in the past 24 hours, with 417, followed by Chattogram with 256 and Sylhet with 150.
Barishal reported 125 cases, Khulna 80, Mymensingh 76, Rajshahi 35 and Rangpur 18.
Since 15 March, a total of 1,46,359 suspected measles patients have been discharged from hospitals, according to the DGHS.
Meanwhile, the ongoing Measles-Rubella Campaign 2026 has surpassed its nationwide vaccination target.
The campaign had set a target of vaccinating 1,80,15,064 people, but 1,97,40,254 people have received the vaccine so far – 109.6 per cent of the target.
Mymensingh recorded the highest coverage among the divisions at 114.9 per cent, followed by Chattogram at 112.6 per cent and Dhaka at 110.3 per cent.
Vaccination coverage stood at 109.7 per cent in Rangpur, 107.9 per cent in Rajshahi, 104.9 per cent in Khulna, 104.4 per cent in Barishal and 104.2 per cent in Sylhet.
In city corporation areas, the campaign had a target of 19,05,950 people. So far, 20,69,217 people have been vaccinated, bringing coverage to 108.6 per cent of the target.
