Dengue situation across Bangladesh, including Dhaka, is deteriorating, with 1,463 patients hospitalised with dengue infection and three deaths recorded in the last 24 hours.
This information was disclosed in the daily dengue report issued on Wednesday by Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
According to the report, a total of 46,938 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country from 1 January to 9 September this year. During the same period, 133 people died from dengue, whilst 43,553 patients were discharged from hospitals following treatment.
Of the newly admitted patients in the last 24 hours, 918 were male and 545 were female, representing approximately 62.7 per cent male and 37.3 per cent female admissions.
All three fatalities reported in the last 24 hours were male. One of the deceased was aged between 21 and 25 years, another between 26 and 30 years, and the third between 71 and 75 years.
Among total dengue deaths so far this year, 61 were male and 72 were female, accounting for 45.9 per cent male and 54.1 per cent female mortality. The data from DGHS showed that the highest number of hospital admissions in the last 24 hours occurred in Dhaka.
Patients were admitted across Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), areas outside Dhaka division, and other divisions.
In the last 24 hours, patient admissions recorded were 255 in Rajshahi, 241 in DNCC, 192 outside Dhaka, 174 in DSCC, 169 in Chattogram, 169 in Khulna, 165 in Barishal, and 88 in Mymensingh, with admissions also recorded in other regions including Rangpur and Sylhet.
Dengue infections have spread rapidly across Dhaka and other divisions throughout the year.
Between 1 January and 9 September, total hospital admissions recorded by region were 7,553 in Mymensingh, 7,207 in DNCC, 6,891 outside Dhaka division, 5,994 in Khulna, 5,615 in DSCC, 2,587 in Rajshahi, 2,557 in Rangpur, and 1,342 in Sylhet.
