Bangladeshi independent film ‘Sand City’, starring Mostafa Monwar, has been selected for the Glasgow Film Festival 2026, adding another major international platform to its growing global journey.
The selection follows the film’s breakthrough premiere at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, where it won the Proxima Grand Prix, the highest honour in that section. Its continued presence on the international circuit signals rising global interest in contemporary Bangladeshi cinema.
Written, directed and edited by Mahde Hasan, Sand City has drawn attention for its understated narrative style and atmospheric visual approach, offering a quiet but powerful portrait of lives shaped by uncertainty in urban Dhaka. The film traces parallel journeys defined by survival, aspiration and the fragile rhythms of city life.
Cinematography is by Mathieu Giombini, while production credits include Rubaiyat Hossain and Aadnan Ahmed, with co-production by Mahajabin Khan and Mahde Hasan. Alongside Monwar, the film stars Victoria Chakma, with supporting performances from Javed Kaiser, Apel Pavel, Ahsan Aziz Sarkar, Satej Chowdhury, Mashrawi Muhammadi and Sajeeb A G.
