The London trial for comedian and actor Russell Brand over multiple allegations of rape and sexual assault has been postponed from June to October.
The 50-year-old faces three counts of rape, three charges of sexual assault, and one allegation of indecent assault, with six women claiming offences dating from 1999 to 2009. Brand denies all charges.
Brand previously appeared at Southwark Crown Court to enter not guilty pleas to two further alleged incidents in London in 2009. The first charges against him were filed in April 2025, involving allegations from four women.
During a hearing on Monday, Justice Joel Bennathan confirmed the trial, now combining both sets of charges, will begin on October 12 and is expected to last approximately two months, instead of the originally planned five weeks. Brand was not present and was represented by his lawyer.
The police investigation began in September 2023 following reports by Channel 4’s Dispatches and The Sunday Times. One woman alleged Brand began a relationship with her when she was 16, which she described as emotionally abusive. Another victim claimed she was raped by Brand in 2012 at his Los Angeles home.
