Actress Rumana Islam Mukti has declared her candidacy for the post of general secretary in the upcoming election of the Bangladesh Film Artistes Association, outlining a campaign centred on welfare and institutional reform.
Currently serving on the executive committee, Mukti said her decision reflects both her experience within the organisation and a personal commitment to continue the legacy of her late mother, veteran actor Anwara Begum, who was actively involved with the association.
She emphasised plans to strengthen support systems for artistes, revitalise organisational activities and re-engage members who have become inactive. Mukti also cited her involvement in recent initiatives, including welfare programmes and commemorative events for late industry figures, as part of her track record.
The present committee, led by Misha Sawdagor and Dipjol, is set to conclude its term on April 24. According to the organisation’s constitution, elections are expected within three months, likely between late July and early August.
Industry discussions suggest efforts are underway to form a panel under Mukti’s leadership, with some within the film community viewing her as a prominent contender in the race.
