Bollywood star Salman Khan has received temporary relief in a Pan Masala advertisement case, with the Rajasthan High Court staying the bailable arrest warrant issued against him.
The court’s decision also exempts him from appearing before the Jaipur District Consumer Commission-2 on April 13.
The warrant was issued after Salman Khan missed multiple hearings in a case filed by Yogendra Singh Badial. Badial alleged that the advertisement misrepresented the product as “cardamom mixed with saffron or tabak” and “pan masala mixed with saffron,” misleading consumers about its safety.
Earlier this year, the Consumer Commission imposed an interim ban on the product’s promotion. When the advertisement later aired in Jaipur and Kota, the commission viewed it as a violation of its order.
The company behind the product challenged the decision, arguing that the complainant was not a consumer and that the case fell under the jurisdiction of the Central Consumer Protection Authority.
Salman Khan further contended that the advertised product was fragrant cardamom with silver plates, not gutkha or pan masala, rendering the ban and warrant unreasonable.
After hearing both sides, the Rajasthan High Court stayed the three orders, temporarily relieving the actor from legal complications.
