The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has granted permission for a Qatar-based air ambulance to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday.
The flight has been arranged to transport BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia to London for medical treatment, a CAAB source confirmed to TIMES of Bangladesh on Friday.
The approval came in response to a request from Qatar Airways, following technical issues that prevented an earlier air ambulance from arriving on Friday.
Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP media cell, said the replacement air ambulance, though manufactured in Germany, is Qatar-operated, dismissing reports calling it a German aircraft.
The flight is scheduled to touch down at 5pm Saturday.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters, “If Madam’s health permits and the medical board gives clearance, she will depart for London on Sunday.”
Meanwhile, Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of Tarique Rahman, the elder son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, arrived in Dhaka on Friday and met with doctors at Evercare Hospital to coordinate the transfer.
