The BCS Information Association has protested the government’s decision to appoint two BCS (Administration) Cadre officers to the Press Wings of Bangladesh missions abroad.
The protest came in a statement issued on Monday night. The association’s Vice President Mohammad Ali Sarkar and General Secretary Md Mamunur Rashid signed the statement.
According to the statement, on 16 November the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting appointed two officials of BCS (Administration) Cadre as First Secretary (Press) at the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and the Consulate General in Dubai, UAE.
Those appointed are Md Ziaul Haque Mir, senior assistant secretary at the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, posted to Consulate General Office, Dubai; and Chapainawabganj Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Tarikul Islam, posted to Kuala Lumpur High Commission.
The association noted, for many years, officers of the BCS (Information-General) Cadre have served as First Secretary (Press) at foreign missions, as their charter of duties specifically includes media and public relations work.
The statement also referred to the recruitment circular issued on 13 January 2025, which clearly stated that “candidates with experience in media and public relations will be given preference.”
The association said media and public relations are not part of the Administration Cadre’s mandate, and therefore the appointments are inappropriate. It expressed hope that the authorities will revoke the decision without delay.
