Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) filed 88 cases and seized 50 vehicles during a 48-hour drive to restore road discipline, tackle the fuel crisis, and curb traffic violations in the city.
RpMP media cell confirmed the matter in a press release issued on Thursday morning.
According to the release, special checkpoints were set up at six key points in the city – DC’s Mor, Medical Mor, Mahiganj Satmatha, Central Bus Terminal, Shapla Chattar and Modern Mor – to check traffic violations.
During the drive, legal action was taken against various vehicles including motorcycles, trucks and private cars, for not having valid documents such as driving licences and registration papers, as well as for not using helmets.
To restore orders on the roads, the district administration has also instructed petrol pump owners not to supply fuel to any driver without a valid driving licence, helmet and necessary documents.
RpMP Commissioner Md Majid Ali said police are working tirelessly to ensure public safety, maintain traffic discipline and prevent any kind of illegal activities, including drug-related offences.
He added that the drives will continue in public interest and urged people to follow traffic rules and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
