Returning officers have received a total of 11.44 lakh postal ballots from voters registered through the ‘Postal Vote BD’ app for the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the referendum.
Of these, 4.95 lakh were cast by expatriates living abroad, while 6.48 lakh were from voters residing inside the country.
Salim Ahmad Khan, Team leader of the OCV-SDI project on expatriate voter registration, told BSS that by 2pm on Thursday, 7.66862 lakh ballots had been sent to expatriate voters via the app. Of these, 5.54258 lakh voters received their ballots, and 5.43751 lakh had cast their votes. Additionally, 5.37554 lakh expatriates returned their ballots to the postal service in their respective countries.
A total of 4.98 lakh postal ballots have already reached Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, for voters residing inside the country, ballots were sent to the addresses of 7.61 lakh registered ICPV voters.
By 2pm on Thursday, 6.8 lakh voters had received their ballots. Of them, 6.74 lakh had voted, and 6.69 lakh had deposited their ballots at post offices or designated drop boxes. Returning officers have confirmed receipt of 6.48 lakh ballots from domestic voters.
Salim Ahmad Khan added that for the 13th national parliamentary election and referendum, a total of 15.32 lakh voters registered through the ‘Postal Vote BD’ app, both at home and abroad, to cast their votes via postal ballots.
