The BNP on Tuesday alleged that a specific political party, sensing “certain defeat” in the upcoming national election, has embarked on a planned path of propaganda and violence.
The press conference was held at the party’s election management committee office in Gulshan. BNP spokesperson Mahdi Amin alleged that the opposition, sensing a loss, is using propaganda to sway public opinion.
He also accused them of manipulating religious sentiments for political gain and preparing for “fake votes.”
Mahdi Amin pointed to the growing public support for the BNP, citing surveys and on-the-ground realities that indicate a “mass wave” in their favour.
He claimed the spontaneous turnout at rallies addressed by BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman further reinforces the notion that a BNP victory is “inevitable” if the election is free and fair.
The spokesperson also condemned the opposition party for its “political bankruptcy,” accusing them of denouncing corruption while simultaneously attempting to buy votes, an act Amin described as “shameful.”
Mahdi Amin highlighted a video circulating on social media, allegedly showing vote-buying in the Dhaka-15 constituency, a stronghold of the opposing party.
He claimed a prominent lawyer-leader from the party was seen distributing money, which he said was a clear violation of the electoral code of conduct that prohibits candidates or their representatives from offering donations or gifts during the election period.
He called for immediate intervention by the Election Commission, terming the act a punishable offence.
In addition, the BNP spokesperson outlined incidents of armed attacks, vandalism, and looting against party activists in Cumilla-11 (Chauddagram) and Bogura-4 (Nandigram). He said these attacks, often carried out under the cover of darkness, are instilling fear among the public.
Mahdi called on local administrations and law enforcement agencies to act swiftly to stop the violence.
