Professor ASM Amanullah, Vice-Chancellor of the National University (NU), led a dawn tribute at the National Memorial (Jatiya Smriti Soudho) on 26 March to mark the 55th anniversary of Bangladesh’s emergence on the world map and Great Independence and National Day. He laid a wreath at the memorial and stood in silence to honour the martyrs of the nation’s liberation struggle.
The ceremony at the National University headquarters in Gazipur was attended by Pro‑Vice‑Chancellor Professor Md Lutfor Rahman; Treasurer Professor ATM Zafrul Azam; acting deans of various faculties; Registrar; Controller of Examinations; heads of departments; and a wide delegation of teachers, officers, students and staff.
Simultaneously, directors of the university’s regional centres led commemorations in their respective districts, laying wreaths at Liberation War memorials and paying homage to the martyrs of 1971.
At sunrise on 26 March, the National University’s Gazipur campus, city office and all regional centres hoisted both the national flag and the university flag. Affiliated colleges of the National University also observed the Great Independence and National Day with due respect and ceremonial programmes.
The annual tribute reflects the National University’s engagement with national heritage and its commitment to honouring the sacrifices of freedom fighters.
