A new song featuring the late Indian singer Zubeen Garg and Bangladeshi singer Ratna Saha has been released on the anniversary of Garg’s death.
Titled Fele Asha, the song had remained unreleased for a long time before Saha decided to release it on the singer’s death anniversary. Garg’s music continues to be popular among listeners in Bangladesh and many other countries.
Kolkata-based lyricist Priyo Chattopadhyay wrote the song, while Assamese music director Rizwan Yasin composed it. Shubhayu Bhattacharya handled the musical arrangement. Pavel Mahmud Joy directed the music video, with Yasin Bin Arian serving as cinematographer.
The video features actors Tarek Zaman Tanz and Faiza Islam, along with child artistes Rudranil Dutta, Turyaninad Dutta and Shrestha Tulsian.
Saha got the opportunity to record the song with Garg through Priyo Chattopadhyay. Having grown up listening to Garg’s music, singing alongside him had long been a dream for the Bangladeshi singer. She eventually fulfilled that dream, but Garg died before the song could be released.
“I feel very fortunate to have sung with such a great artiste. I grew up listening to Zubeen Garg dada’s songs, and it was a dream of mine to sing with him. I am very happy that I got to fulfil that dream. However, if he were still alive, I might have been able to know how he felt about the song. That is a great regret for me. Even so, the gift he has left for me is one of the greatest achievements of my musical life,” Ratna Saha said.
Born in Faridpur, Saha developed an interest in music during childhood. Her mother was not a professional singer but had a deep love for music. Listening to her mother sing bhajans, kirtans and other devotional songs inspired Saha to pursue music. She considers her mother her first music teacher.
Saha made her debut as a singer in 2024 with the song E Kemon Maya. Since then, she has built a career through both solo and duet releases. She has so far released 56 original songs and has also collaborated with artistes including Akash Sen, Kazi Shuvo and Mahtim Shakib.
For Saha, however, Fele Asha is more than another addition to that list. The song represents the fulfilment of a long-held dream and a lasting memory connected to her musical journey.
