Hasnat Abdullah, chief organiser (South) of the NCP, has warned that those attempting to “rob” votes or manipulate the fate of the people will have nowhere to hide.
Addressing an election rally at the Shahzadpur Government College field on Sunday, he said the 13th National Election would be a decisive turning point, shaping the country’s course for the next 100 years.
He added the election would determine the future structure of the state, the conduct of the administration and police, and the role of the judiciary, adding that the rally was organised by an 11-party alliance backing the NCP-nominated candidate.
Directing his remarks at the administration, he criticised the conduct of the previous three elections, alleging that votes were cast at night and the names of deceased voters were used to manipulate outcomes.
He further alleged that during those elections, people’s voting power was seized by the administration, with bribery becoming entrenched from senior police officials, including superintendents of police and officers-in-charge, down to constables.
Warning against the use of illegal funds in the upcoming polls, he said once people rise, they cannot be stopped even with force.
“If you try to rob the vote this time, you will find no way to escape,” he said.
The public meeting also featured speeches by Rafiqul Islam Khan, Central Assistant Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami, and Saif Mustafiz, the NCP candidate for the Sirajganj-6 constituency.
