Bangladesh Bank (BB) has issued new directives to restrict financial transactions ahead of the upcoming national election.

Under the central bank’s announcement on Sunday, cash withdrawals and deposits at banks will be limited to Tk 1 lakh per customer daily.

Additionally, mobile financial services (MFS) transactions will be limited to Tk10,000 per day.

The MFS restriction will take effect from 12am on 9 February and remain in place until midnight on election day (12 February).

During this period, customers will not be permitted to transfer or withdraw more than Tk10,000 via mobile platforms.

In a separate internal circular, Bangladesh Bank directed commercial banks to ensure that individual customers do not exceed the daily cash limit of Tk1lakh.

The central bank said the measures have been introduced to maintain financial security during the election period.

Bangladesh Bank spokesperson and Executive Director Arif Hossain Khan said customers will be allowed to conduct up to 10 MFS transactions per day, with a maximum of Tk1,000 per transaction, totaling Tk10,000.
