A total of 90,098 depositors have withdrawn Tk3,245 crore from Sammilito Islami Bank in the first 20 days of September, according to a statement issued by the bank.
During the same period, the bank received Tk2,700 crore in fresh deposits from different sources.
The bank said between 1 September and 20 September, a total of 1,79,682 account holders applied to withdraw Tk6,975 crore. Of them, 90,098 customers received Tk3,245 crore.
Meanwhile, 32,074 new accounts were opened with the bank during the period, bringing in Tk378 crore in deposits.
Overall, the bank mobilised Tk2,700 crore in fresh deposits during the 20 days, according to its data.
Sammilito Islami Bank was formed through the merger of five Islamic banks — First Security Islami Bank, Social Islami Bank, Union Bank, Global Islami Bank and EXIM Bank. The merged entity currently operates 761 branches across the country.
Earlier on 31 August, Bangladesh Bank’s Bank Resolution Department issued directives regarding deposit withdrawals from the bank.
Following the central bank’s guidelines, Sammilito Islami Bank started accepting applications from individual account holders for refund of principal deposits on 1 September and began disbursing funds to customers from 7 September.
