The two-day National Referee and Instructor Convention of the Bangladesh Butthan Association (BBA) was held at the Indoor Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, bringing together referees and instructors from across the country.
The convention was attended by Mr Mohammad Aminul Ehsan, Director of the National Sports Council, and Major General Sadequzzaman, as special guests. The event was presided over by Professor Major General (Retd) Mohammad Quamruzzaman, President of the Bangladesh Butthan Association.
Training sessions were conducted by Grandmaster Mak Yuree Vajramunee, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Butthan Association, a world record holder and internationally recognised “Superhuman” as featured on the Discovery Channel.
A total of 60 male and female participants took part in the referee training and convention. Alongside sessions on Butthan’s rules and regulations, participants received instruction on the 108 Vajrapran Exercises. Until the afternoon of November 1, the convention featured practical training and in-depth discussions on the Co-Competition philosophy and its applications, following the Butthan Rule Book.
During the closing and certificate ceremony, Mr Mohammad Aminul Ehsan remarked: “Butthan is a symbol of our heritage. Its practice should be expanded nationwide to create greater opportunities for the physical and mental excellence of our people.”
In his presidential address, Maj Gen (Retd) Quamruzzaman highlighted Butthan’s significant role in developing ideal and responsible citizens.
It is worth noting that the UNESCO–ICM official platform has recognised Butthan as a martial art of educational and cultural value, marking it as a source of national pride and international appreciation for Bangladesh’s martial and sporting heritage.
Butthan (ব্যুত্থান), meaning “defence with distinction” or “awakening,” is a Bangladeshi martial art and combat sport focused on self-defence and personal development. Founded in 1981, the Bangladesh Butthan Association oversees the sport, which was officially recognised as a national discipline by the National Sports Council and the Ministry of Youth and Sports in 2013.
