Universal is reportedly exploring further entries in the ‘Wicked’ film series. Speaking to Vulture, studio chief marketing officer Michael Moses said that while plans are not yet finalised, “things are underway” to expand the franchise.
The first Wicked film, released in 2024, grossed over $500 million worldwide against a $150 million budget. Its sequel, ‘Wicked: For Good’, hit cinemas on November 21, continuing the story of Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) as they embrace their identities as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good. Returning cast members include Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh and Bowen Yang.
Grande and Erivo recently shared emotional farewells to their characters on social media, while Grande missed promotional appearances due to a positive Covid-19 test.
