Fire Service recovered the body of a young man from the Kalni River around 11am on Thursday in Austagram, Kishoreganj.
Austagram Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Rukonuzzaman confirmed the matter. The deceased, identified as Iman Mia, 26, was a farmer. The accident occurred around 3pm on Wednesday.
According to a local teacher, Md Sarwar Hossain, Iman and several other labourers returned home by boat after harvesting paddy. When a sudden storm began, the boat started taking on water. At one point, a sheuti (traditional tool used for bailing out water) fell into the river, and Iman went missing after attempting to retrieve it.
OC Rokonuzzaman said police learned of the incident through locals and launched a rescue operation with Fire Service assistance, which led to the recovery of Iman’s body.
