Mercantile Bank PLC celebrated its 27th founding anniversary on Monday, outlining plans to prioritise recovery of classified loans, expand agent banking operations and strengthen digital banking services.
The anniversary programme was held at the bank’s head office on June 2, where Mercantile Bank Vice Chairman Al-Haj Akram Hossain Humayun inaugurated the event by cutting a cake in the presence of directors and senior executives, the bank said in a press release.
Mercantile Bank Managing Director Mati Ul Hasan delivered the welcome speech at the event.
Executive Committee Chairman MA Khan Belal, Risk Management Committee Chairman Mohammad Abdul Awal, Sponsor Director ASM Feroz Alam, Independent Director Mohammad Thoufiqul Islam and Independent Director Nasrin Sultana also spoke at the event.
Deputy Managing Directors Md Zakir Hossain, Shamim Ahmed, Ashim Kumar Saha, Md Zahid Hossain and Tapash Chandra Paul, along with Senior Executive Vice Presidents Mohammad Iqbal Rezwan and Md Abdul Halim, attended the programme.
Main Branch Head Md Abdul Awal and other senior executives of the bank were also present.
The bank also arranged cake-cutting programmes across all divisions of its head office, while branches and sub-branches nationwide marked the anniversary by serving sweets and snacks to customers.
Speaking at the event, Akram Hossain Humayun said Mercantile Bank had established itself as a sustainable, reliable and customer-friendly financial institution through consistent efforts over the past 27 years.
He urged officials to continue providing technology-based and customer-friendly banking services while ensuring corporate governance.
Managing Director Mati Ul Hasan said recovery of classified loans would remain a priority during the current fiscal year.
He said the bank would focus on lending to agriculture, SME and retail sectors while expanding agent banking outlets and sub-branches to increase banking access for unbanked people across the country.
The managing director also said Mercantile Bank planned to make digital banking services easier and smarter through innovative products in the coming days.
The bank observed the anniversary under the theme “Together with renewed inspiration, always forward…”
