Mehazabien Chowdhury’s first appearance on the silver screen came with ‘Priyo Maloti’ last year, although her actual debut project, ‘Saba’. After much anticipation, the film is eyeing its Bangladeshi release.
After a successful festival circuit, including Toronto, Busan, Red Sea, Gothenburg, Sydney and Raindance, the Maksud Hossain directorial is gearing up for release in theatres across the country. Mehazabien herself announced the news on social media, confirming that the long-awaited film will soon be in cinemas.
Speaking to Ajker Patrika, director Maksud Hossain said, “The film is ready. We’re planning a release either at the end of September or early October. The exact date will be finalised shortly.”
The drama follows Saba, a young woman from a middle-class family who becomes her wheelchair-bound mother’s only support after her father’s death. When her mother suffers a sudden heart attack, Saba faces an impossible choice, forced to put aside her own dreams to fight for her mother’s survival.
Starring alongside Mehazabien are Mostafa Monwar and Rokeya Prachy. With its international acclaim and emotional storytelling, Saba now returns home to the audience it was first made for.
