The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed three separate cases against Abdul Quader Mirza, brother of former minister Obaidul Quader, and his wife and son for allegedly acquiring assets beyond their known sources of income.

Quader Mirza was the former mayor of Basurhat municipality in Noakhali.

Deputy Assistant Director Chinmoy Chakraborty filed the cases at the ACC Integrated District Office in Noakhali.

According to ACC sources, a primary investigation revealed that Quader Mirza accumulated off-the-book wealth amounting to Tk1,19,96,950 at various times between 1999 and 2024.

During this timeframe, his total assets were calculated at Tk2,37,74,704, set against a verified legal income of Tk1,55,88,104.

In another case, his wife, Akhter Jahan Bokul, faces charges of acquiring wealth beyond her known income totalling Tk1,50,83,400.

The initial probe established that she acquired these assets with the assistance of her husband, making Abdul Quader Mirza an accused in her case as well.

The third case names their son, Mirza Mashrur Quader Tashik alias Tashik Mirza, for acquiring illegal wealth worth Tk81,73,425.

Despite being a student by profession, he reportedly gathered the assets with his father’s assistance, resulting in Quader Mirza being charged as an abettor in this case too.

All three cases were formally registered following final approval from the ACC Head Office.

Chinmoy said that if the involvement of any other person is identified during the detailed investigation, necessary legal action will be taken against them.
