In a special operation at the houses of three yaba dealers in the Kutupalong area of Ukhiya upazila, Cox’s Bazar, a large quantity of yaba tablets and money from drug sales have been seized, and two female drug dealers have been arrested. In this raid conducted by RAB, 89,600 yaba pills and Tk16.71 lakh from yaba sales were recovered.
The two drug dealers arrested at that time are Mahmuda Khatun (59), wife of Sirajul Haque from the same area, and Sajeda Begum Saju (19), wife of yaba dealer Saddam Hossain. However, the three notorious drug dealers Saddam Hossain, Mahiuddin, and Helal Uddin managed to escape.
The matter was confirmed at a briefing on Sunday afternoon by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-15). The raid was conducted on Saturday evening.
Assistant Director (Law and Media) and Assistant Police Superintendent of RAB-15 stationed in Cox’s Bazar, AM Faruq, stated that, on Saturday evening, RAB learned that a large quantity of narcotics had been stored in the single-room tin-shed building of Saddam Hossain and Mahiuddin and the one-story building of Helal Uddin in Kutupalong village, Ward No 9 of Rajapalong Union, Ukhiya.
Based on this information, when the RAB operational team reached the spot, the drug dealers tried to run away. At that time, the RAB team managed to apprehend two individuals on the spot: Mahmuda Khatun (59) and Sajeda Khatun Saju (19). Meanwhile, the three notorious drug dealers escaped.
He claimed that, according to information provided by the two arrested women, a search of the residences of the fugitive drug dealers Saddam Hossain, Mahiuddin, and Helal Uddin led to the recovery of 89,600 yaba tablets, and Tk16.71 lakh from yaba sales, 3 Android mobile phones, and 2 passports.
RAB claims that the arrested drug dealers have stated during initial interrogation that they have been illegally collecting yaba tablets from the border areas of Teknaf with mutual assistance for a long time and selling them in various districts of the country, including Cox’s Bazar.
