Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping Md Muhidul Islam has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA). He assumed his responsibilities on Tuesday.
Prior to this appointment, Islam served as the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
His distinguished career includes serving as Member (Security) of the Civil Aviation Authority. Additionally, he has held various significant positions within the field administration, serving in Kishoreganj and Rajbari districts, among others.
Md. Muhidul Islam holds an advanced degree in Maritime Affairs from the World Maritime University, a specialised agency of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
The announcement was confirmed in a press release signed by Kazi Arif Billah, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry of Shipping.
