The tribunal has recorded the testimony of 16 out of 17 charge-sheeted witnesses in the case over the rape and throat-slitting murder of child Ramisa in Pallabi, Mirpur, the court said on Tuesday.
Judge Masrur Salequeen of the Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Suppression Tribunal recorded the statements of 16 individuals, including the victim’s father, Abdul Hannan Molla, and mother, Parveen Akhter.
State-appointed defence lawyer Musa Kalimullah cross-examined the witnesses. Following the cross-examination, the court set Wednesday as the date for the defendants’ defence hearing, effectively concluding the testimony recording phase of the case.
Bench Assistant Pankaj Peter Gomes confirmed the information.
The main accused, Sohel Rana, was brought to court from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj, and his wife, Swapna Akhter, from Kashimpur Jail, at around 8:45am. They were kept in the lock-up of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court before being produced in the courtroom prior to the testimony recording.
