A Jamaat-e-Islami leader and fertiliser dealer was fined Tk 25,000 by a mobile court in Kamarkhand, Sirajganj, for illegally storing urea fertiliser.

Monirul Islam, 45, nayeb-e-ameer of Kamarkhand upazila Jamaat, was fined during a raid at his residence in Chhoto Dhopakandi village under Bhadurghat union around 11pm on Thursday.

Acting on information from locals, a team led by Abdullah Al Mamun, assistant commissioner (land) and executive magistrate, conducted the raid and seized 18 sacks of urea from Monirul’s house.

Abdullah Al Mamun said the team found evidence supporting the allegation of illegal fertiliser storage.

He said Monirul, a fertiliser dealer, had allegedly brought the sacks from his warehouse to his residence and stored them there.

The mobile court fined him Tk 25,000 under the Fertiliser Management Act.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Farid Hossain and Kamarkhand Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hashmat Ali were among those present during the operation.
