Singer Zayn Malik has opened up about his relationship with model Gigi Hadid, admitting that he was unfaithful at times and questioning whether his feelings for her were ever truly love.
Zayn and Gigi were one of the most high-profile celebrity couples of their generation. They began dating in 2015 and experienced several break-ups and reconciliations before welcoming their daughter, Khai, in 2020. Their romantic relationship ended shortly afterward but Zayn has now shared candid insights into what went wrong.
Speaking on the ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast with Alex Cooper, the former One Direction star reflected on his mistakes. He said, “You tend to get in trouble in relationships because I was young and did certain things, spoke to other females when I shouldn’t have been, as most people do. You live and learn from it. But this way, there’s no guilt. I can just be free and speak to whoever I want.” He added that being single has helped him feel comfortable spending time alone, explaining, “I don’t find being alone scary. I’m cool with myself.”
When asked whether he still stood by a 2024 statement in which he said he had never been in love, Zayn admitted that his understanding of love has evolved. He said, “At that moment in time, I might have thought it was love, but as I’ve got older, I’ve realised maybe it wasn’t. Maybe it was lust.”
Despite his reflections, Zayn emphasised that he holds no ill will toward Gigi. “I will always love G because she’s the reason my child is on this earth. And I have the utmost respect for her. But I don’t know if I was ever in love with her,” he said.
This rare interview offers one of Zayn Malik’s most personal revelations to date. Known for keeping his private life largely out of the public eye, the singer has provided fresh insight into one of Hollywood’s most talked-about relationships and the complex emotions behind it.
