Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Friday called his Bangladesh counterpart Tarique Rahman to congratulate him on his party’s landslide victory in the national election.

According to Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibly, the call took place around 3pm, during which Anwar Ibrahim extended warm congratulations to Tarique Rahman for assuming office following a decisive electoral mandate.

The Malaysian leader also expressed his country’s interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation on a range of issues of mutual concern.

In response, Tarique Rahman thanked his counterpart and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing collaboration for the development and prosperity of both nations.

BNP secured a two-thirds majority in the 12 February national election and officially formed the government on 17 February, with Tarique Rahman assuming the office of Prime Minister.
