Two people were killed in separate lightning incidents in Jamalpur amid heavy rain on Wednesday morning.
The victims were fisherman Shamim, 38, and teenage labourer Sagar, 13.
Shamim was a resident of Tongrapara in Morakandi village under Gaibandha union of Islampur upazila and was the father of a daughter.
Family and local sources said he went fishing in a river with other fishermen around 5:00am when he was struck by lightning and died on the spot.
His colleagues later spotted the fishing net floating and recovered his body before informing the family.
In a separate incident, Sagar, a labourer, was killed by lightning while working on a road construction site in Sapdhari union. He was the son of Swadhin Mia from Chiniapara village in Dewanganj upazila.
Witnesses said he died on the spot after being struck during work. Locals said lightning strikes have intensified at the start of the season, putting people working in open areas at high risk.
They urged precautionary measures, especially for those working on rivers, fields and construction sites.
