The National Film Awards 2023 have been announced. A notification issued on January 29, signed by Information and Broadcasting Ministry Secretary Mahbuba Farzana, confirmed that 30 films, artistes and crew members will be honoured across 28 categories.
The Lifetime Achievement Award will be jointly conferred on the late filmmaker Tarek Masud and the late cinematographer and filmmaker Abdul Latif Bachchu, recognising their enduring contributions to Bangladeshi cinema.
The Best Film Award goes to ‘Saatao’, directed by Khandaker Suman, who will also receive the Best Director Award for the same film. Mariam has been named Best Short Film, while ‘Leelabati Nag: The Rebel’ has won the Best Documentary Film award.
Afran Nisho will receive the Best Actor Award for ‘Surongo’, while Aynun Nahar Putul has been named Best Actress for Saatao. Monir Ahmed (Shakil) will receive the Best Supporting Actor Award for Surongo and Nazia Haque Orsha will be honoured as Best Supporting Actress for ‘Ora 7 Jon’.
Ashish Khandaker has won the Best Actor/Actress in a Negative Role award for ‘Adventure of Sundarban’, while Shahiduzzaman Selim will receive the Best Actor/Actress in a Comic Role award for Surongo.
Md Lyon has been named Best Child Artist for ‘Aam Kathaler Chhuti’, while Arif Hasan and Anaira Khan will jointly receive the Child Artist Special Category Award for the same film.
In music and choreography categories, Emon Chowdhury has won Best Music Director for ‘Adventure of Sundarban’. Balam will receive the Best Male Singer Award for the song ‘O Priyotoma’ from ‘Priyotoma’, while Abanti Sinthi has been named Best Female Singer for ‘Ei Gaan Chuye Bolo’ from Surongo. Habibur Rahman Habib will receive the Best Dance Director Award for ‘Lal Sari’.
Someshwar Oli has won the Best Lyricist Award for the song ‘Eshwar’ from Priyotoma, while Prince Mahmud will receive the Best Music Composer Award for the same song. The late Faruk Hossain has been posthumously honoured with the Best Story Award for Priyotoma.
Niyamul Mukta has received the Best Screenplay Award for Roktojoba. Raihan Rafi and Syed Nazim Ud Daula will jointly receive the Best Dialogue Writer Award for Surongo.
In technical categories, Md Salah Uddin Ahmed Babu has won Best Editor for Ora 7 Jon. Shahidul Islam has been named Best Art Director, while Suman Sarkar has received the Best Cinematographer Award, both for Surongo.
Sujan Mahmud has won Best Sound Editor for Saatao. Bithi Afreen has received the Best Costume and Make-up Award for Surongo, while Sabuj has been named Best Make-up Artist for Priyotoma.
