Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman have separated after nearly two decades together, Billboard has confirmed.
The news first surfaced on 29 September via TMZ, which reported that the couple had been living apart since the start of the summer.
Urban and Kidman began dating in 2005 and married the following June in a ceremony held in Sydney, Australia. They went on to have two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.
Kidman also shares daughter Isabella and son Conor with ex-husband Tom Cruise. The announcement follows several months of speculation about the state of their relationship.
Earlier this year, on Valentine’s Day, the couple’s Beverly Hills home was burgled while they were away, with police confirming the property had been ransacked.
In July, Urban attracted headlines when he appeared to abruptly cut short a radio interview after being asked about his wife’s on-screen romantic scenes.
One of their final public appearances together was at a FIFA Club World Cup match in June. The previous month, they attended the Academy of Country Music Awards, adding to a long list of red-carpet events they had shared over the years.
Both have previously spoken warmly of each other. In a 2020 interview with Zane Lowe, Urban said, “What I’ve learned from her is to be more fearless in artistry and go for the curious place that you want to go to as an artist … that’s definitely had a big impact on my music in the last five, six years.”
Kidman echoed the sentiment in 2022, telling CBS Mornings, “I met him later in life and it’s been the best thing that’s ever happened to me. That man is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
