The Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has expressed a strong reaction against the labelling of Vice Chancellor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan as a “fascist”. They described such remarks as unrealistic, undesirable, and politically motivated.
In a formal statement, JCD leaders said the recent incidents of attempted rape and murder are extremely sensitive matters. They asserted that the primary focus of all parties should be on bringing those involved to justice swiftly.
The leaders further noted that divisive comments and personal attacks serve only to make the current situation more complex.
The organisation called for coordinated efforts between students, the university administration, and law enforcement agencies to identify and ensure punishment for the criminals.
They alleged that a section of the ongoing movement has been presenting the vice chancellor as a “fascist,” which they deemed contrary to responsible behaviour.
JCD further claimed that the VC has a history of taking a stand against irregularities, oppression, and authoritarian practices.
They highlighted that he has been actively involved in various student movements and struggles in the past.
According to the organisation, the university administration is already working in coordination with law enforcement to identify and arrest the accused following the recent incidents. Under these circumstances, JCD remarked that attempts to present the vice chancellor in a politically controversial light are illogical.
