A massive fire broke out in an air-conditioned coach of the Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam on Sunday morning, though no casualties were reported.
The blaze erupted around 5:15am in the B-1 coach carrying 68 passengers between Vikramgarh Alot and Luni Richha railway stations, reports NDTV.
The fire also damaged the second luggage-cum-guard van (SLR) attached behind the coach.
Railway officials safely evacuated all passengers and shifted them to other coaches so they could continue their journey to Kota in Rajasthan.
West Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Harshit Shrivastava told PTI that the damaged coach and guard van were detached from the rake, allowing the train to resume its journey around 9:45am.
Officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
The incident disrupted rail traffic on the route and affected the schedules of at least 18 trains, with several halted at different stations.
