A female student of Jahangirnagar University has accused another student of cyberbullying and filed a formal complaint.
According to the complaint, the victim was subjected to abusive and threatening comments on social media by another student of the JU, Golam Rabbani. The accused is also identified as a content creator for a Facebook page titled “Tuko the Ugly.”
According to university sources, the incident stemmed from graffiti on campus. Without verifying the facts, Rabbani reportedly posted a video about the issue on social media.
When the female student objected in the video’s comment section, Rabbani allegedly responded with offensive and inappropriate remarks directed at her. Following the incident, she submitted a written complaint to the university proctor on Wednesday.
Commenting on the matter, JU Proctor Prof AKM Rashidul Alam said, “We have received the written complaint. The issue is being reviewed seriously. It will be discussed at the next meeting, and necessary measures will be taken in accordance with the university’s existing disciplinary rules.”
Meanwhile, the accused claimed he does not personally know the complainant and insisted he had no intention of harassing her, saying he had only replied to a comment. He alleged that the publicity surrounding the issue is motivated and exaggerated based on a single remark.
However, Rabbani expressed regret over his choice of words and apologised. “If some of the words used in my comment were inappropriate, I regret and apologise to the concerned student,” he said.
