Journalist Anis Alamgir has been shown arrested in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, Anis Alamgir’s lawyer Nazneen Nahar confirmed.
The court order came on Wednesday after ACC Assistant Director Akhtaruzzaman, also the investigating officer of the case, submitted an application on 25 January to show journalist Anis arrested in the case.
The ACC filed the case against Anis on 15 January.
Earlier, on 14 December, a team of Detective Branch (DB) police took Anis to their office for questioning. Later that midnight, Aryan Ahmed, a member of the “July Revolutionary Alliance,” filed a case against him and three others, accusing them of conspiring to destabilise the state and inciting a banned organisation.
The other accused in the case are actress Meher Afroz Shaon, fashion model Maria Kispotta, and presenter Imtu Ratish Imtiaz. The following day, police showed Anis Alamgir arrested in that case and took him on five days’ remand.
After the remand ended on 20 December, he was sent to jail.
