The three-day “Kuhelika Utshab 1432” concluded at Islamic University (IU) on Wednesday, aiming to foster student entrepreneurship and celebrate Bengali traditions during the winter season.
Organised by Abhoyaronno, a social, cultural, and environmental organisation, the festival’s final day saw a vibrant gathering at the Bottola premises.
Since the first day, the venue has been transformed into a festive meeting place with spontaneous participation from students across various departments.
The festival featured a wide array of stalls showcasing handmade pithas, books, jewellery, and clothing. Many students were also seen participating in a traditional letter-writing activity.
The extensive menu of traditional delicacies included Puli, Sujir Malai Chap, Biscuit Pitha, Coconut Puli, Dudh Chitoi, Bhapa Pitha, Teler Pitha, Coconut Pakon, and Patishapta.
Other items such as Chotpoti, Fuchka, Dahi Fuchka, Chicken Momo, Pudding, Kheer, Faluda, Dudh Sandesh, and Coconut Chamcham were also available.
Nazmus Sakib Jitu, a student, remarked that while cultural programmes are relatively infrequent at the university compared to other institutions, Abhoyaronno has been successfully hosting such events for several years to fill that void.
Another student, Ritu Moni, expressed that the festival provided a sense of home for those living away from their families, offering a chance to enjoy traditional winter cakes and a festive atmosphere.
Naimul Farabi, president of Abhoyaronno, stated that the organisation has arranged Kuhelika Utshab for the fourth consecutive year with the cooperation of IU students.
“The main objective is to provide a platform for student entrepreneurs where they can present their products or services to their peers,” he said.
He further noted that the festival included traditional attractions such as puppet shows, “Ronjon,” and a letter box to highlight Bengali culture. Farabi expressed his hope that through Kuhelika, the students of Islamic University would help spread Bengali heritage across the country.
