A joint forces team, led by the army, arrested a couple suspected of drug trafficking and recovered a significant quantity of narcotics and weapons during a raid in Nesarabad, Pirojpur.
The suspects, identified as Rasel Howlader, 35 and his wife Nasrin Akhter, 30, were apprehended at their residence around 3am on Wednesday. Rasel is the son of the late Abul Kalam, a resident of Jagatpatti village in Ward-7 of Swarupkathi Municipality.
Acting on intelligence, the joint forces searched the couple’s home and seized 330 pieces of Yaba, 7 grams of hemp (ganja), 12 mobile phones, 5 SIM cards, 2 CCTV cameras, 1 memory card, 6 grinder machines, a jungle knife, and various drug-consuming paraphernalia.
Reports suggest the couple had long been involved in the illicit sale of Yaba and hemp in the locality.
Al Araf, an officer at the Nesarabad Army Camp, stated that such operations would continue to maintain law and order and ensure the peaceful conduct of the upcoming polls.
Nesarabad Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mehedi Hasan confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects were taken into custody.
He added that the couple, along with the recovered evidence, had been handed over to the police, and they would be sent to court on Thursday following the completion of legal formalities.
